FAQ

  • WHAT IS THE COST OF STONE COUNTERTOPS?

Cost is based on multiple factors like square footage, placement of countertops, premium edges and more. Price is provided on a initial estimate, following the final price upon material selection. Quotes are provided at no cost or obligation.

More accurate quotes have to include the customer's information on cabinet layout, type of sink, stove or cook top. If drawings only are available for estimate then typically 11/2" or 2" overhang where applicable and your preference of backsplash (4" height are standard) are requested.

Remnants are available for smaller projects at considerable savings.

  • WHAT BACKSPLASH SIZE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

That will depend on preference mostly. Standard backsplash is 4 inches in height. Different other options are available, sometimes even recommendable due to complication that may appear due to other factors present in project , example will be backsplash covering a electrical outlet. Full backsplash are also available, dramatically increasing the focus point and value of the kitchen.

  • WHAT ABOUT SEALAR?

Sealant is applied after project installation, and to preserve the stone shine, it could be repeated once a year or whenever necessary.

  • IS FOOD CUTTING ON GRANITE SAFE?

It can be done, though not recommendable. Cutting on stone will dull your knifes very fast, there are some rocks that are not indestructible, like marble and limestone, and few other materials out there that will stain. There are too many invariables to fully recommend food preparing on granite, therefore we strongly suggest a cutting board. Request for one from the company, we will be happy to have one polished for you to save and preserve the quality of your countertops.

  • WHAT ABOUT GERMS?

When it comes to germs, as any surface, should be clean with anti-bacterial cleaner. Use of harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided, because they will affect the coat of lacquer and diminish the glossy finish of the stone. There are many good granite cleaners, few of them even combining cleaner and sealant in the same container.

  • WHERE SHOULD YOU HAVE THE SEAM LINE?

Best idea of seam, or joint, is in sink or cooktop center, visibly reducing the line to only a few inches in front and back of the respective materials. Based on countertop dimensions and slab sizes, will render the seam in those locations impossible, so alternatives should be found.

Information about seam lines will be presented before the contract is signed.

  • WHAT EDGE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

At the moment DISCOUNT GRANITE offers 6 edges : square edge, beveled edge (can be in different sizes 1/4",1/2",3/4" and 1" ), demi-bullnose, full bullnose , ogee and chiseled .

Stone edge should be all about the cabinet lines. Example: square or beveled edge from the countertop goes very well with straight modern lines of the kitchen cabinets.

A visual idea of the edges is presented in the edge details page.

  • WHAT TYPE OF THE SINK SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

There are a variety of sinks to choose from, from material they are made to type and size. Most commonly used in Arizona are stainless and granite composite . A sink should complement the appliances and vice versa. Faucet and sink almost always should be the same color and/or material.
